Caesarea : Overview

Located midway between Tel Aviv and Haifa, Caesarea is one of the greatest cities of antiquity, founded by Herod the Great and rivaling cities such as Alexandria and Antioch. Since the 14th century, shifting dunes have covered the ancient city, while major excavations over the recent years began to reveal its past splendor.

Today, Caesarea remains to be a great historical marvel and a top archeological development of all time.

Visitors can now enter the ruins, attend the new visitor center, and enjoy the modern cafés, and restaurants in the old city. Around the old city, modern Caesarea now consists of gated residences, small shops, cafés and restaurants; a golf course, and museum. It also serves as a home to prominent Israelis and high profile government officials, including current Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu. Today, Caesarea is known for its beautiful beaches, peaceful resorts, and vacation atmosphere.
